The Lamborghini Murci?lago R-GT realized the best-ever result for the Lamborghini marque in international motor racing this weekend, being placed second in the GTS class at the fourth round of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) at Infineon Raceway,California, ....
adding to the European spoils already achieved by the car in the FIA GT Championship in Valencia, Spain, earlier this year. The podium placed Lamborghini Murci?lago R-GT was driven by the Krohn-Barbour Racing team pairing of Tracy Krohn and David McEntee (standing in for Scott Maxwell) both racing the Lamborghini for the first time, with Krohn in his first-ever ALMS race. The other Krohn-Barbour Racing Lamborghini, of David Brabham and Peter Kox, was running fourth in the GTS class when Kox was forced to retire the car 25 minutes into the race with mechanical problems. The Amprex Motorsports Murci?lago R-GT was also in action this weekend in the fourth round of the Japan GT championship. The team, with Kuala Lumpur-based Japanese driver-owner, Genji Hashimoto, and second driver German Norman Simon, qualified a second ahead of the main opposition, the Ferrari 550 GTS of Prodrive. In the race, the R-GT finished in 15th place at Tokachi Speedway, Hokkiado, after suffering minor accident damage from an off-course excursion during the race, but once again coming home in front of the Prodrive Ferrari. Manfred Fitzgerald, Marketing Manager, Automobili Lamborghini summed up this weekend?s performance, saying, ?The Lamborghini Murci?lago R-GT scored its second place podium finish, the best result so far for this race car. With the R-GT racer competing in the USA and Japan, and with plans for racing in the FIA GT championship in Europe, it is quickly establishing itself in competition around the globe.? Krohn-Barbour Racing will be back out on track in next weekend?s fifth round of the ALMS at Portland International Raceway, Oregon. Amprex Motorsports will be testing at their home base, Sepang circuit ahead of the Motegi round of the Japan GT championship next month.
